“NatRisks” CIVIS Summer School 2024
In cooperation with the UNESCO Candidate Geopark of Nisyros, the five-day summer school (8-12 May 2024) entitled “Vulnerability of the Eastern Mediterranean: Natural Processes and Climate Risks (NatRisks)” was successfully completed in Nisyros, in the framework of Europe’s Civic University Alliance (CIVIS). The volcanic environment of Nisyros was intensively studied by young scientists under the guidance of renowned professors from European Universities (Nastos Panagiotis, Nomikou Paraskevi (NKUA), Karen Fontijn (ULB), Christophe Morhange (AMU), Alexandra Bivolaru (Ca’Foscari University) on volcanology, tectonics, physical geography, geomorphology, oceanography, climatology and archaeology through a series of interactive courses, experiential workshops and educational lectures. The objectives of the school were to raise awareness among young people about the value of geodiversity, potential geohazards, the correlation between anthropogeography and the natural envirnoment as well as climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
