🦎 International Biodiversity Day | May 22

From its volcanic terrain to its underwater ecosystems, Nisyros is a living sanctuary for a wide range of flora and fauna species. The island’s volcanic landscape, thermal springs, Posidonia meadows, migratory bird routes, and rich marine biodiversity create a rare mosaic of natural heritage.

The recorded presence of 450 plant species, 85 bird species, 7 reptile species, as well as the Mediterranean monk seal along its coasts, make Nisyros a site of exceptional ecological value—worthy of protection and continued scientific exploration.
