Erasmus+ “VOLT” Educational Visit to the Nisyros Volcanological Museum

As part of the European ERASMUS+ Program titled “VOLT – VOLCANOES AS TEACHERS”, implemented by the 2nd Primary School of Kos in collaboration with the schools “Stapaskóli” of Iceland, “Associazione Culturale Io vivo dentro di me – Albero della Tuscia” of Italy, and other institutions such as “Riserva del Lamone / Comune di Farnese”, “Associazione Italiana di Vulcanologia”, and “QUEST”, a visit was carried out to the Volcanological Museum of Nisyros Geopark on April 7th, 2025.

A total of 25 students and 12 accompanying teachers from the three partner countries were welcomed at the port of Nisyros and guided by Mr. Evangelos Tasioulas, President of DIKEN (Municipal Public Benefit Corporation of Nisyros – the managing body of the Nisyros Geopark).

The visiting group toured the well-organized premises of the museum, watched an educational video closely related to the subject matter of their Erasmus+ project, and received informative printed material. Their feedback praised the scientific value and hospitality of the Volcanological Museum of Nisyros.
Additionally, on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, during the official welcome event at the 2nd Primary School of Kos for the Italian and Icelandic participants, Dr. Evi NomikouEvi Nomikou, Professor of Geological Oceanography at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Scientific Coordinator of the Nisyros Geopark, addressed the students, teachers, and coordinators via an online meeting. She gave a warm greeting and delivered a brief introductory presentation on volcanoes and the volcanic activity of Greece.
