Participation of the Nisyros Geopark in the 17th Conference of the Geological Society of Greece

We are pleased to announce that the Nisyros Geopark actively participated in the 17th Conference of the Geological Society of Greece, which took place in Mytilene, Lesvos, from May 28 to May 31, 2025.
The Nisyros Geopark was represented by the President of the Management Authority (DIKEN), Evangelos Tasioulas, the Scientific Coordinator, Dr. Evi Nomikou, and the Geoscientist of the Geopark, Elisavet Nikoli.
Nisyros’ presence at the conference included two scientific presentations:

● “Nisyros Geopark: A Living Laboratory of Volcanic Geoheritage in the South Aegean” – Evi Nomikou

● “Integrating Volcanic Geoheritage and Community Engagement: The Case of Nisyros aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark” – Elisavet Nikoli

These presentations highlighted the geological richness and uniqueness of the island, as well as the educational, scientific, and community-based initiatives being implemented within the Geopark. The aim is to protect and promote the volcanic geoheritage in direct connection with the local community.
