World Environment & Oceans Day

On June 5th, in celebration of World Environment Day, a guided tour of the island’s impressive hydrothermal field and volcanic craters was organized. The tour was led by Dr. Evi Nomikou, Scientific Coordinator of the Nisyros Geopark, who highlighted the geological significance and uniqueness of the volcanic landscape through both scientific insight and hands-on exploration.

Joining us with great enthusiasm were the students of the 4th Summer School of Physical Sciences, currently taking place on the island — an inspiring opportunity to connect academic learning with direct engagement in the natural environment.

In addition, on June 8th, in celebration of World Oceans Day, a beach cleanup was carried out at Hohlaki Beach. The action emphasized the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and encouraged environmental responsibility through active local participation.
