3rd Summer School on Natural Sciences

Nisyros Geopark and the Laboratory of Climatology and Atmospheric Environment of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens co-organized, once again, the 3rd Summer School in Natural Sciences in Emborios, Nisyros, from June 2 to 9, 2024.

University professors and researchers from the fields of Meteorology and Climatology, Geology, Forestry, Ecology, and the Natural Environment participated with a variety of lectures and field exercises on the island of Nisyros, which is considered a “Natural Science Laboratory.” The postgraduate students who attended the Summer School completed both theoretical courses and fieldwork, such as laboratory exercises related to micro-bioclimate measurements in the settlements of Nisyros, tree-ring dating for the reconstruction of Nisyros’ climate, air quality measurements, environmental assessments on the Nisyros volcano, and studies on the geological evolution of the active volcano over time.
