4ο Nisyros Geopark Festival

The 4th Nisyros Geopark Festival came to a close on 30 September with Ioulia Karapataki’s concert at Mandraki harbour, concluding a programme of music and cultural events that began on 11 July.

Under the theme “Journeys through Earth and Culture”, the festival was co-organised by the Municipality of Nisyros and the Nisyros UNESCO Global Geopark. Events took place in village squares, settlements and harbour across the island, with free admission for residents and visitors.
Natassa Bofiliou, Kaiti Koulia, Ypogeia Revmata, Violeta Ikari, Dimitris Bakoulis, Marianna Katsimicha and Ioulia Karapataki were among the participating artists. The music programme also featured ABAS, Giorgos Vogiatzakis, Kyriakos Papoulis’ Rebetiko Ensemble, Diavates and NA NERO NA, spanning rebetiko, traditional music, contemporary Greek songs and blues.

The programme also included the Nisyrian Amphictyony, the Soumada Festival and the 11th Ifaistiada. A special highlight was the event on 21 August celebrating Nisyros’ official recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The festival highlighted the connection between Nisyros’ geological heritage, culture and traditions, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to discover the island through its events.

Thank you to the artists, everyone who contributed to the festival and all those who joined us!
