5th UNESCO Global Geoparks Conference of Greece-Cyprus

On Saturday, June 15, the proceedings of the 5th UNESCO Global Geoparks Conference of Greece-Cyprus, organized by the UNESCO Global Geopark Chelmos-Vouraikos and the Greek Geoparks Forum, concluded in Kalavryta (June 13-15, 2024). The title of this year’s conference was “Geoparks and Geo-Stories”. Nisyros Geopark was represented by its coordinator, Mr. Tasioulas, with a presentation on “Actions for Promoting the Geo-Cultural Heritage of the Nisyros UNESCO Global Geopark Candidate.” For two days, representatives from all the Geoparks, as well as officials from public organizations, educational institutions, and universities, made excellent presentations in the five thematic sections of the conference:

– Exploring the interaction between biodiversity and geodiversity
– Geo-education for all
– Geotourism: combining experience, knowledge, and enjoyment
– Natural disasters and climate change: the contribution of Geoparks
– Geoparks in the digital age: prospects and new tools
