Educational Visit of Afantou Junior High School of Rhodes to Nisyros Geopark

Nisyros Geopark welcomed 2nd Grade Junior High School students from Afantou Junior High School of Rhodes as part of an educational visit dedicated to the geological and volcanic heritage of Nisyros.

On the first day of the visit, May 12th, students explored the Volcanological Museum and the volcano of Nisyros, gaining firsthand experience of the island’s unique volcanic landscape and active geothermal phenomena.

The educational program continued on May 13th with a visit to Chochlakoi and the pillow lava formations, where students observed remarkable geological features and developed a deeper understanding of the geological history and evolution of Nisyros.
Through experiential learning and direct contact with the natural environment, students gained valuable knowledge about the island’s geological heritage and the importance of its protection and promotion.

This initiative further highlighted the important role of environmental education in fostering ecological awareness and strengthening young people’s connection with the natural environment
