Educational Visit of EPAL Kos to Nisyros Geopark
Nisyros Geopark welcomed the students from the Vocational High School (EPAL) of Kos as part of its educational visits program on the island.
The visit formed part of a three-day educational excursion for 2nd and 3rd grade high school students to Gyali and Nisyros. Accompanied by geologist Maria Melachroinaki, the students visited the traditional village of Nikia, the volcano, and the Volcanological Museum of Nisyros, gaining first-hand experience of the island’s unique volcanic landscape and geological identity.
By descending into the crater — where the earth “breathes” — students had the opportunity to observe the island’s active geothermal phenomena up close and better understand the dynamic nature of the volcanic environment.
This initiative offered a meaningful educational experience, strengthening students’ connection with the natural environment while highlighting the importance of environmental education and sustainable development.
