International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

Today, October 13th, is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. At the Nisyros Geopark, we know firsthand the power of nature and the importance of protecting our planet.
Through our educational activities and the promotion of sustainable practices, we aim to raise public awareness and strengthen resilience against natural disasters.

In celebration of this day, the Nisyros Geopark organized an educational event and talk on Friday, October 11th, for the students of Mandraki High School, titled “Volcanic Hazards: Understanding, Prevention, and Response to Natural Disasters.” The talk was delivered by the geoscientist of Nisyros Geopark, Elisavet Nikoli. The volcanic landscape of Nisyros serves as a living reminder of the Earth’s dynamic nature and the importance of preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
