Nisyros Geopark Participates in MedGU 2025
Nisyros Geopark took part in the MedGU 2025 – 5th Mediterranean Geosciences Union Annual Meeting, representing the island in Track 9, which focused on Geoparks, geodiversity, and geotourism.
During the conference, the Geopark’s geoscientist delivered an oral presentation titled:
“Nisyros Geopark: A Volcanic Laboratory and Cultural Landscape in the South Aegean”
The presentation highlighted the distinctive volcanic character of Nisyros, showcasing the island as a natural open-air laboratory for geological processes. It also emphasized:
● the unique geological and geomorphological diversity of the island,
● the close relationship between geology and cultural heritage,
● the Geopark’s initiatives in education, research, and heritage promotion,
● and the role of the Geopark in supporting sustainable development in the South Aegean region.
Nisyros Geopark’s participation in MedGU 2025 provided an important opportunity to present the island’s natural and cultural wealth to the international geoscience community and to strengthen collaborations with researchers and institutions active in the fields of Geoparks and geosciences.
