Nisyros UNESCO Global Geopark Celebrates International Museum Day

On the occasion of International Museum Day, celebrated worldwide every year on May 18th, Nisyros UNESCO Global Geopark is organizing a free guided tour for residents and visitors of the island at the Volcanological Museum of Nisyros on Wednesday, May 20th 2026, from 11:00 to 15:00.

The guided tour will be led by geologist Maria Melachroinaki and will offer participants the opportunity to explore the unique volcanic history of Nisyros, discover the island’s geological phenomena, and better understand the importance of protecting and promoting natural heritage.

Through this initiative, the Geopark aims to strengthen the connection between the local community, visitors, and the island’s geological identity, while promoting environmental awareness and the educational value of museums and geosciences.
